Welcome
What is Kiwanis?
Kiwanis is an international service organization serving the youth of the world. It was founded in Detroit, Mich., in 1915.
The word “Kiwanis” originally came from an Otchipew American Indian expression, “Nunc Kee-wanis, meaning “we trade” or “we share our talents.” That expression was translated by the early founders of the
organization into our first motto “We build.”
In 2005 the organization chose a new motto, “Serving the Children of the World” which has been enhanced by our current saying “Changing the world one child and one community at a time”.

Swinging into action
Members of the Aiken Kiwanis Club and community partners gathered on the grounds of the Boys and Girls Club March 27 to install a new swing set. The equipment was provided by the Kiwanis Club with the aid of a grant from the Carolinas Kiwanis District Foundation. This new playground equipment would help to complete the playground area installed last summer. With the help of several members of the community, the installation went smoothly and was completed in about 2 hours. Several children from the area participated in a clean up effort and were instrumental in pulling weeds and re-mulching the trees planted last fall under the watchful eye of Samantha Cheatham, director of the Boys and Girls club. Our deepest appreciation goes to all those who helped make the project a success with a special “shout out” to Richard and Amber Seigler of DR Horton builders and Jamin King of the Boys and Girls Club Advisory Board.

Projects for the Boys and Girls Club of Aiken
Buddy benches originally made by Kiwanis of Aiken members for area middle schools, COVID 19 restrictions caused a change in plans. The benches were donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Aiken for the new playground area. Vice President Angela Byoette originated the idea and President Harvey Krape created the design. In total, four benches were made, painted and donated.
In addition, Kiwanis received a grant from Aiken County for trees as part of the "Keep Aiken County Beautiful" program. Kiwanis members and Key Club members worked with community partners and the Salvation Army to plant trees around the playground area.
